How we have
helped locals
We are proud of the work we do with our local community and how we bring members of our community together. Throughout the pandemic we were able to support locals and families who would have gone without food. Read below to find out how we helped Alison and Tracey.
Alison's story
Alison is a single parent with no recourse to public funds, meaning that she is not entitled to any support from the Government. Her 5 year old son has additional support needs. Following a referral from the local school, we supported the family for 8 weeks, whilst they lived in the local area.
Alison was so grateful with the weekly supply of fresh foods, many of which met her African heritage, she was so emotional when she received her weekly hampers. She explained how this made her feel part of the community and never felt that anyone cared enough to help her and her son. We were even able to help with additional support such as clothes and household items.
Tracey's story
During the pandemic, we have seen many families struggle to meet their basic needs. Not only did the free school meals crisis leave families making difficult decisions in terms of how they spent their money, but the loss of choice and dignity that affected many women, in particular had a huge impact.
For every food parcel we provide, there are numerous sanitary packs that we issue to women and girls too and toiletries. Tracey, who had 3 daughters, cried when she had to ask for sanitary towels for her family. She felt ashamed that she was not able to afford the products and she had not eaten for 2 days at the prospect of having to budget to buy them. We provided them for her whole family.
