We want to have a positive and considerate impact on the environment and regeneration of our area.
Here at North Smethwick Development Trust (NSDT), we recognise the responsibility we must take in protecting the environment. We aim to manage organisational activities in such a way that any negative impact on the environment as a result of these activities is taken into consideration, managed and minimised where possible.
Brasshouse Lane Community Centre in Smethwick recently took delivery of a bleed control kit cabinet that is now available for the local community to use. The bleed control kit cabinet was donated by John Duthart of ‘Fire & Evacuation Services Ltd’. John stated, ‘the benefit of having a bleed control kit cabinet on the fence outside of the centre is that even when the centre is closed people in the local community can still access the bleed control kit if they ever came across someone that had encountered catastrophic blood loss incident’.
During March 2025 Brasshouse Lane Community Centre held a bleed control kit training session, over 20 people from the local community attended this free training opportunity and from this training the idea of having a bleed control kit cabinet was born.
The bleed control kit training providers Bishop Desmond Jaddoo from ‘Birmingham Empowerment Forum’ and Majid Khan from ‘Yes2Life’, put the wheels in motion and reached out to John and all partners agreed there was a need for the cabinet.
Jennifer Harrison BEM, Chief Executive Officer of Brasshouse Lane Community Centre said, ‘the addition of the bleed control kit cabinet and our existing defibrillator makes a great statement to our community that there are two major pieces of lifesaving equipment available if it was ever needed’.
We are committed to making North Smethwick a place where locals can take pride in where they live and work. We work with our local community and partners to ensure North Smethwick is safe and secure for all. From working with our volunteers to joining forces with local initiatives such as Litterwatch “Adopt a Street”, local Neighbourhood Watch groups to promote community safety and our connections with locally based groups of interest, we are always finding new ways to make North Smethwick safer, more sustainable and a place where people can thrive.
We are proud of our community and are keen to play a key part in local regeneration. Together we want to help improve transport links and reduce barriers that locals face everyday when getting around. We have been working with the community and local authorities to help improve transport links and making getting to services and recreational activities more accessible, safer and efficient for the community.
It’s important we work together with the local community and there is plenty you can get involved with. If you would like to help make a difference in our community speak to us for more details.
