At NSDT we have a vision to positively impact and unleash the potential of North Smethwick by promoting social inclusion and community wellbeing.
How our important work is making a difference to our community.
North Smethwick Development Trust (NSDT) at the Brasshouse Community Centre welcomes you to our website which will give you some idea of who we are and what we do.
NSDT is a voluntary organisation and registered charity managed by local people for local people. Originally set up in 1988 to provide housing regeneration in North Smethwick, our focus now includes economic and social regeneration where we aim to make a real and positive contribution to the lives of people in North Smethwick.
At the Centre, we offer a range of activities, often in partnership with other voluntary groups and agencies for local people of all ages living in the neighbourhood of North Smethwick. Rooted in the community, we encourage people to play an active role in the development of local services.
If you haven’t been to the centre before, please do come and visit us. Our usual office opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We also open in the evenings and at weekends for community events and classes. Check out our What’s On page for more information.
The impact of Coronavirus in 2020, further highlighted the impact that food poverty was having on local people. Find out how our initiative started and how the awareness raised from Marcus Rashford has helped with our campaign. See what we have been up to and how this service has helped hundreds of families in the community.
We are committed to working with our local community to improve health and wellbeing for all.
We know it can often feel challenging to enter the world of work. We will help you strengthen and uncover your talents & skills to start work through training, work placements, apprenticeships, portfolio building and volunteering to help you reach your goals and build your confidence.
We work with our local community to take pride in our local area and do what we can to take care of our planet. Together our efforts to improve the local area are vital so our community can lead healthier and happier lives.
The trust prides itself on giving back to the community. This means that by hiring our venues and using our catering services, you are having a direct impact to the important work we do to help our community.
We run a range of fun and exciting activities at our community centre, and work in partnership with a range of partners to make sure that there is always something to do and somewhere to go that everyone can enjoy.
Our Brasshouse is the centre of the community and is a real hub for locals, helping bring members of our community together.
Our catering service is perfect for your next corporate or private event. Our delicious food is made to your requirements and is made from only the best locally sourced ingredients. We can cater for all events and budgets and all profits are put back into the local community.

Working with NHS England and the local Primary Care Network, Lodge Road Surgery worked extremely hard to deliver Pfizer and Oxford Astra-Zeneca vaccines at The Brasshouse Community Centre in Smethwick to patients in the local community between December 2020 and August 2021.
Cannock logistics firm Super Smart Service Ltd worked with and donated blood pressure monitors for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) to give to residents who would benefit the most.
